ChessBase Magaine 95

ChessBase Magazine 95 has an awesome 1,563 games, 400 with annotations. But it also contains special training sections on openings, middle and endgame, strategy and tactics. Especially, the "theory" section is a bonanza for the tournament player. Check out whether there is an opening that fits your style. Opening sections include the English (2 sections); Modern Benoni, Alekhine, Pirc, Sicilian, French, Nimzo and Open Ruy.

On the CBM 95 CD you will find a number of other databases dealing with different areas of chess. Each of these sections is written by a leading expert and will help you improve your chess skills.

95 Strategy
In his series "The Opening and the Search for the New" Peter Wells this time looks at the subjects "Lapses of Memory: Finding the New in the Old"; "Where to start the search:'Tabiyas' and their limitations"; "Irrationality in the opening: Fashion, Beauty and Bravado!"; and "Some Rather Deeper Novelties". The article contains nine didactically annotated example games.

95 Endgame
Due to illness our regular endgame expert GM H.J. Hecht is replaced in this issue by GM Karsten Müller. This is an expert with an international reputation in the field of endgame study. His database, 95Endgame, contains 49 instructive examples from topical games.

95 Tactics
Our tactics instructor Valery Atlas presents "Combinational Motifs at the French Team Championship". He writes: "Selecting training positions for the present tactical database, I was pleasantly surprised with the number and quality of tactical battles at the French Team Championship 2003. This tournament provided many lively battles offering a variety of instructive practical exercises in tactical chess skills." There are 24 tactical lessons to practice with.

ICCF Telechess The Correspondence Chess section by GM Juan Sebastian Morgado and GM Roberto G. Alvarez contains seven reports and 6,279 games, 23 of which have been annotated by the two authors. There is also information on the Chessfriend.com server, a new major correspondence chess server which provides automated timekeeping, leave administration, conditional move messages to the opponent, automated system messages, "live games", up-to-date tournament tables, and a game archive with correct game scores in PGN-format.
