Conquistadors vs. Incas Themed Chess Pieces

According to myth, Inca civilization began with Manco Capac, who carried a golden staff called the "tapac-yauri". The Inca were instructed to create a Temple of the Sun in the spot where the staff sank into the earth, to honor their celestial father. After a long journey, including a tour of the underworld, the Inca arrived at a place where today the city of Cuzco is situated in modern day Peru. There the Inca built their temple.

In 1533 Spanish Conquistadors, led by Francisco Pizarro, conquered much of the existing Inca territory. In succeeding years, the Conquistadors consolidated power over the whole Andean region, repressing waves of Inca resistance and finally establishing the Viceroyalty of Perú in 1542. Over 400 years later, Inca cultural traditions still remain strong among surviving indigenous descendants, such as the Quechua and Aymara people.

This unique chess set is hand painted, featuring a 4" tall King with a 1.125" base. This chess set is ceramic and made of hydrostone, a very hard gypsum material, giving a natural stone-like feel, weight and look.
