The exquisite Sultan Series chess pieces in Boxwood and Red Sandalwood (also known as Blood Rosewood) or Boxwood and Ebony feature a magnificent 4" King with a 1 7/8" diameter base. The 32 chessmen weigh a sizable 60 ounces. The chess pieces ship with four Queens and two different King's finials. The chessmen are housed in a fine mahogany box, lined with green billiard cloth and divided, with solid brass quadrant hinges, lock and key. The Knights are simply superb with braided mane and bridle.

Red Sandalwood is a striking, Red-burgundy colored, light-grained, exotic wood which is more expensive than ebony, but is much more resilient and less likely to develop the hairline cracks so prevalent in weighted ebony chessmen.
