Chess Boards
Traditional Walnut

Walnut is a sturdy and practical wood for chess boards. Walnut is a rich dark
brown heartwood that is moderately heavy, hard, strong, and stiff, with good
decay resistance and dimensional stability. Walnut is prized in North America
for high-end cabinetry and furniture, and has long been a premier choice. This
dark wood makes for an extremely attractive chess board at a terrific price.
Our Traditional wooden chess boards
in Walnut and Maple are available in 2.25" squares with an overall size
of 21.5 x 21.5 inches. The light squares are fabricated from Bird’s-eye
Maple (BEM), the dark squares in dark Walnut. These veneered chess
boards are 0.5" thick and have a satin-like finish, giving a smooth
touch to the boards and protecting chess players from light reflection.

Our Walnut and Maple wooden chess board comes to us from the unsurpassed
craftsmen at Rechapados Ferrer of Europe. Walnut is an excellent choice of wood
for Golden Rosewood chess pieces and contrasts nicely with Ebony or ebonized
chess sets.
