Elite Wenge and Maple

This Elite board is made from Wenge, which is found in the open forests of Mozambique. Wenge wood is dark brown, mostly black, with fine, closely spaced, very dark veins with pale lines. The combination of light bands against the dark wood with black streaks gives Wenge a extremely attractive appearance. Exposure lightens the dark color of the wood, and Wenge is occasionally left in the sun on purpose to lighten the color. The appearance of the wood has been described as expressive with a low luster

The light squares are fabricated from Bird’s-eye Maple (BEM), while the dark squares are set in rich selected Wenge. These veneered chess boards are 0.5" thick with a satin-like finish, giving a smooth touch to the boards and protecting chess players from light reflection.

Our Elite wooden chess board in Wenge is available with squares of  2.375", perfect for any quality chess set with a King's base of 1.65-1.875 inches. The overall size in 23.5 x 23.5 inches. Wenge is an excellent choice of wood for contrasting with Rosewood and Golden Rosewood chess sets. Red Sandalwood chess sets work wonderfully with Wenge, as the dark colors of the Wenge and the vibrant color of Red Sandalwood compliment each other nicely.
