This special selection process creates a chessboard that perfectly matches the pieces while maintaining form, function and beauty. Fine varnish and a special, ultraviolet drying process are the last steps in creating a striking, high-gloss finish that is both glare-resistant and durable. From India comes the exquisite boxwood set, prized for its beauty and density. Highly polished pieces are double-weighted for a heft you can feel. Each chess piece is hand-turned on a lathe and hand-sanded by highly skilled Indian craftsmen. Pieces are then lacquered to a silky smooth finish in deep, rich colors to bring out the details and beauty of the natural wood. A weighted base prevents accidental tip-overs, while greenfelt cushions and protects the pieces and board.
