Yasser Seirawan
Four-time US Champion from Seattle, WA, Yaz was
born in Damascus, Syria, March 24, 1960. This world-class player has qualified
twice for the World Championship Candidate series and has scored well in
numerous international events including first at Haeninge 1990 (ahead of Anatoly
Karpov and Jaan Ehlvest) and at Wijk aan Zee 1980.
Yaz has represented the US in six Chess Olympiads, including first board for
the Silver Medalist 1990 team. He twice won the US Junior Championship
(1978-79). He tied for first place in the 1985 US Open and won it in 1990.
Yasser owns Inside Chess Enterprises and is the publisher of Inside Chess
magazine. He's authored 13 books on chess as well as serves as host of the Pro
Chess Videos. Yaz tied for first place in the 1981, 1989 and 2000 U.S.
Championships, and won the championship in 1986. Other interests include sports,
business, and movies.
Oh yeah! He also spent 2½ years working on the Pro Chess: Video Chess
Mentor. Quite a chore!
