This Elite board is made from rich Mahogany, a delightful wood found primarily on the Ivory Coast of Africa. The color is a dark reddish shade, deep and lustrous in hue. The grain is typically interlocked, but often produces a striped or swirl effect. Mahogany's high, golden coloring is a beautiful choice for chess boards at an extremely moderate price.
The light squares are fabricated from Bird’s-eye Maple (BEM), while the dark squares are set in beautiful selected Mahogany. These veneered chess boards are 0.5" thick with a satin-like finish, giving a smooth touch to the boards and protecting chess players from light reflection.
Our Elite wooden chess board in Mahogany is available with squares of 2.375", perfect for any quality chess set with a King's base of 1.65-1.875 inches. Mahogany is an excellent choice of wood for contrasting with Ebony or ebonized chess sets. Rosewood chess sets also work wonderfully with Mahogany, as the rich and warm colors of the Mahogany and Rosewood compliment each other nicely.
