Example 1

controlling the center right away

1...a5?!
No center control here

2.Bc4
White could also play 2.d4 and control all the center squares with his two center pawns

2...b6?
Still overlooking the center and exposing his rook too early

3.Bxf7+!
White can now sacrifice his bishop to expose the Black king and win the Black rook

3... Kxf7

4.Qh5+ g6
4...Kf6?? 5.Qf5 mate; 4...Ke6 5.Qf5+ Kd6 6.Qd5 mate

5.Qd5+
Followed by 6.Qxa8 and White wins the exchange.
