Improve Your Chess with the Right Chess Moves:

Try to put your pieces on squares that give them maximum space.

Example 1

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6
Philidor's Defense. Black is giving up a little bit of space and mobility

3.Bc4
The maximum space for the king bishop 3...a6?! (no gain in space with this move. Better is 3...Nc6 to gain more space for the queen knight.

4.Nc3
White gains space by developing his other knight

4...Bg4?
Black would gain more space with 4...Nc6. Black overlooks White's threat on the kingside

5.Nxe5!
Now White has more space with the knight deeper in the center

5...Bxd1??
Black had to play 5...dxe5 6.Qxg4 and settle for a loss of a pawn

6.Bxf7+ Ke7
The only move

7.Nd5 mate.
