Chess Book Reviewers
Online Sites
Chess book reviews are a great help in deciding the right selection before
you purchase, whether for enjoyment or study. ChessCentral has collected these
helpful chess book review sites to make finding what you need easier and faster.
British Chess
Magazine - Dating back to January of 1998, you will find a terrific
collection of reviews, though most are brief, you will still get an idea of
their opinion. An easy search helps in guiding you to any particular book you
might be interested in.
Chessopolis
- Here you will find NM Randy Bauer at the helm. This terrific review area is organized by categories, then you can see the
rating before you read the review. A great time saving idea!
Chess Kamikaze - Steve Lopez, the author of T-Notes
at ChessBase and ChessBase guru supreme, has nicely organized his books reviews
to make it easy to find the book you need. He brings his noted lively wit and splendid
writing style to make his reviews an enjoyable read on their own!
John Elburg - John has been reviewing chess books for many years. John
resides in the Netherlands and reviews books in conjunction with Chess Mail
a chess magazine run by Tim Harding in the UK.
Seagaard Chess Book Reviews - Written in both English and Dutch, this
site has been getting a lot of attention lately. The site is great looking and features
a nicely organized chess book review area. You can sign up for his brief
emails to get a scoop on new reviews.
Chessville - Their book review staff is composed of experienced and
reflective amateurs who know what it is that you are looking for in a book
review. The numbers of reviews is small, but growing rapidly.
John
Watson - In association with the London Chess Center and TWIC, John
writes in depth book reviews that are comprehensive and thorough, but if you are
looking for a review of a particular book, you may search forever.
ChessCafe -
Hanon Russell's excellent site has a section devoted to chess book reviews. Many
different reviewers have given their opinions on a wide range of chess books.
The site offers a extensive archive, but the search function doesn't work well
so it is in essence useless.
