Online Chess Playing Sites Reviews5 Microsoft ZoneTo start go to www.zone.msn.com/chess, the gaming zone for chess players. To begin to use this site you must have a .NET passport which is free at this site. You will be given the option of having the software downloaded as soon as you sign on to the site. With this action you'll find an icon on your desktop to go to this gaming area. You won't find a download process any easier than what you will find in this gaming zone. It's as "simple as pie" to quote an old phase. This site is geared towards being a place to play chess. Ergo, there is no chess library and organized tournaments are rare. However, you have a choice of a large number of different games to play over the internet, i.e. poker, blackjack, spades. And if you want to play a game of chess day or night, you can find one here. Not being exclusively dedicated to chess, this site has several drawbacks for the aspiring chess player. The "Fischer clock" is not available to use, no library to store games and a lack of a serious rating system makes this a difficult site to recommend to the serious player looking for improvement. I also found the graphics to be slightly inadequate with the bishops looking too similar to the pawns on the board. The price of site can't be beaten; it's free all the time - all you have to do is register. If chess is just one of many games you play and enjoy over the internet, then this site might be just what you are looking for. The Microsoft gaming zone is a great place to make friends and enjoy a hand of cards or a battle over the chessboard. |
