When you first start playing on this site, you will get a pawn ranking, after about a week of regular play that will change into a Knight. At this point of activity you will be allowed into the regularly scheduled tournaments. These tournaments are organized in advance, but not as many as I would have hoped. A month of play and a PlayChess rating of over 1600 will lead to a Bishop ranking. FIDE Grandmasters will be assigned the ranking of King.

At any time you will find players’ numbering anywhere from 100 - 400 people, with strength ranging from beginners to masters. There rating system is two-fold, strength and activity, allowing you to see how often your opponent has played on the system and his relative strength. I found the strength rating system to closely mirror the USCF system as far as strength of a B player etc.

Curious about where your opponent lives? Most sites give you the option of seeing the country of your opponent, but none do it as graphically or as well as this one. All opponents are marked with the flag of their country and are pinpointed on a globe, which will even show the phases of the moon. An excellent representation of the globe, moon phase, and daylight makes this a very interesting and educational way of seeking an opponent.
