The Caro-Kann Defence, which begins 1.e4 c6 2. d4 d5, is considered one of the most solid and reliable
replies to the double-step of White’s e-pawn. In the Caro-Kann, black fights for his
share of the centre without accepting any unnecessary weakening of his
position. Shirov’s preferred weapon
against this sound black set-up has always been the Advance Variation
3.e5. This avoids simplification after 3.Nc3 dxe4 and heads toward a position of greater tactical and strategic complexity. Thus, the main topic of the DVD are the white
and black plans following 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.e5 Bf5 4.Nc3 as explained through Shirov's own games.. Shirov shares impressive wins from both the white and black sides of the variation.

Alexei Shirov was born in Riga just like world champion
Mikhail Tal, and perhaps not so coincidentally, his playing style also reminds many chess fans of the
young Tal. In the early 1990s, a comet-like rise brought the
young Latvian to the top of the world rankings. At just 22 years old he already had an Elo rating of nearly 2750 and
belonged to the absolute elite. Since then Shirov has been one of the
best players in the world, continually delighting chess fans with his original and
amazing ideas. System requirements: Pentium-Processor at 300 Mhz or higher,64 MB RAM, Windows XP, Windows Vista, DVD drive, mouse, soundcard
